State/Organizational Standards on SRF: What to do if yours isn’t listed

Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, California, and Virginia. What do these states all have in common? Well, other than belonging to the same country, they all have state or organizational sight reading standards available in Sight Reading Factory. This means that music educators in those states can choose from a list of options that represent the types of sight reading exercises their students will likely face in their All-State or performance auditions and assessments.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get when we visit various music educator conferences is “Why don’t you have _____ state sight reading standards on your site?” and the answer is most often “Because we don’t have access to them or permission from that state organization to include them.”

The solution is a pretty easy fix, in most cases. If you would like to see your state or organizational standards become available on SRF, here’s how to go about getting that started:

    email srf

  1. Email us a pdf of the specific sight reading standard attached. Be sure to make sure the email or pdf includes what ensembles/levels/grades/and organization it’s for.
  2. Provide us with the information for the contact person at the organizational level so that we can request permission to include it.
  3. Once we have these items, that will get the ball rolling towards getting your standards included, if we are able. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day! Sometimes it takes a while to hear back from the decision makers at the organizational level - and sometimes they say no! And then it also takes time for our developers to write all the code for that new standard.

So, if you’re looking for a state or organizational standard that isn’t already part of our site, drop us a quick line with the above-mentioned information and, if you’re lucky, your state can join that list above!
